- ERO Report June 2014 Our curriculum provides an up-to-date, balanced and positive learning environment centred around inquiry learning, using digital technologies, and our local environment as a base for much of our learning. Resources: We are a well resourced school. We have a Music Room, Art Room, School Gardens, Performing Arts Centre and Learning Action Centre (with cooking facilities). Digital Technology: We are up-to-date with the latest in digital learning. We provide iPads, Apple laptops, Chromebooks, wireless interactivity, broadband internet, SMART televisions and 3D printing. We interact with parents/carers through Seesaw (Juniors) and Hapara (Seniors). We provide Chromebook purchase for Years 5 to 8 through the Te Hinaki (Horowhenua) Trust. Staff & children are digitally knowledgeable. Most online interaction is through Google documents and Apps. |
Who We Are |
We are a full primary school that means we have classes from Year 1 to 8. We have the option of children learning in our multi-level Rumaki Reo, total Māori immersion class (unavailable in 2019/20/21), though we continue to provide general te reo learning and more indepth learning for those children who are interested or were in the previous Rumaki class. We also have a kindergarten onsite that directly feeds into our junior school, as well as a local kohunga reo and playcentre. (More information on early childhood options on our 'Info' page).
Shannon School operates an open door policy and has a warm, approachable staff. It is our firm belief that working closely with whanau enables us to provide an opportunity for children to develop as happy, educated, digital, life-long learners. |
Our History |
Shannon School has a long and proud history. At Easter 2014 we celebrated our 125th Jubilee.
Shannon is situated between Levin and Palmerston North and has a history of flaxmilling and hydro industry. A charming farming town, with strong Māori culture, local attractions include the historic railway station, village shops, Owlcatraz, Mangahoa hydro dams and the Mangahao Stream which provides an international grade kayaking course known as the Mangahao Slalom. In November 2013 we launched our Senior student inquiries on the history of Shannon people and landmarks. Please view their work at http://livingheritage.org.nz Our past school class photos and other memorabilia has been digitised and are available on the Horowhenua kete site. http://horowhenua.kete.net.nz |
